Mediacom Business to Sponsor STEM Saturday Educational Program at the National Flight Academy
Pensacola, FL - July 14, 2016 - The National Flight Academy today announced that its July STEM Saturday Half-Day Educational Program will be sponsored by Mediacom Business, a division of Mediacom Communications Corporation. Mediacom Business currently serves as the data and phone service provider powering NFA’s broadband connectivity demands.
STEM Saturdays, a hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) program for children in grades K-6, is held on the third Saturday of every month, according to Chip Yarbrough, NFA Program Director. Participants are provided the opportunity to fly an aircraft, drone, or remotely-operated vehicle in one of NFA’s thirty flight simulators aboard AMBITION, the world’s only simulated aircraft carrier.
“Our broadband needs are substantial, requiring the latest and greatest high-speed internet technology,” Mr. Yarborough said. “Mediacom Business has met, and exceeded our needs. We’re glad to expand this relationship to include their sponsorship of STEM Saturdays which shows the academy’s innovative capabilities to those in the community outside our students.”
Dan Templin, Senior Vice President of Mediacom Business, said his company uses its proprietary, gigabit-enabled fiber optic infrastructure to power the NFA’s broadband connectivity demands. “Mediacom Business strives to put high-capacity broadband within reach of local businesses. Through STEM Saturdays, the National Flight Academy is able to show firsthand the positive impact our services are having in the communities we serve. We are extremely proud to partner with NFA to make STEM Saturdays a reality,” Mr. Templin said.
The National Flight Academy, located aboard Naval Air Station Pensacola in Pensacola, Florida, is designed to address the serious concerns of declining Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) skills and standards in our country. The Academy’s mission is to inspire students who subsequently return to their parent schools and seek out the more challenging courses in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
The NFA is a self-supporting, tuition-based educational program. In order to make the National Flight Academy adventure a reality for as many students as possible, we are committed to a financial aid program that enables a demographically and geographically diverse student population to attend. We welcome support from individuals, corporations and foundations for both our scholarship program and general operation funds. The National Flight Academy, a program of the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation Inc., is authorized but not endorsed or funded by the U.S. Navy or U.S. Government.
